Seven Brethren raised in special ceremony

Singleton Lodge No. 8399 was delighted to host its 214th Regular Meeting on 16 March 2026 at the Masonic Hall on St Helen’s Road, Swansea, marking a memorable evening of ceremonial excellence.

The highlight of the evening was the raising of seven brethren to the Third Degree of a Master Mason. Originally planned for eight candidates, one absence meant the ceremonies were conducted in two parts, both delivered to an exceptionally high standard. Among those raised was a student currently studying at Swansea University, while the other candidates reflected the diversity of the Lodge’s membership, including an Opticians Manager, Construction Engineer, Civil Servant, Sound Engineer, Café Owner and Insurance Damage Assessor. All had been introduced and encouraged to join by existing members.

To accommodate the higher number of candidates than usual, the Lodge opened earlier than usual, welcoming an impressive attendance of 32 members and 28 visitors. We were especially pleased to receive support from visiting brethren, including representatives from our mother lodge, Glantawe, and our sister lodge, Old Goreans.

At the start of the meeting, members paused to reflect and pay tribute to W.Bro. Chris Pike, our much-valued organist, whose dedication and contribution to the Lodge over many years will be fondly remembered.

The ceremonies were conducted by our Worshipful Master W. Bro. Darren Blann and his officers, all of whom were ‘light blue’ Master Masons, making the occasion particularly noteworthy. Delivered with an exceptional high standard of ritual, the ceremony was carried out in two parts – initially raising four brethren before calling off, and then calling on and completing the raising of the remaining three, after which all seven were brought together to complete the final stage and be introduced to the next step of their Masonic journey.

Prior to the ceremonial proceedings, members received updates on Lodge activities, including upcoming fundraising initiatives in support of the 2032 Festival and other financial matters. Elections were also held, and we are pleased to announce that Bro. Mart Taylan has been declared Master Elect for the ensuing year.

Looking ahead, Singleton Lodge has been invited to deliver a demonstration at the Universities Scheme Conference in Cardiff this April – an honour that recognises the Lodge’s reputation for excellence, particularly in ceremonies involving multiple candidates.

The evening concluded with our traditional Festive Board, known for its relaxed atmosphere and good humour, providing the perfect setting for members and visitors to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

We look forward to welcoming members and visitors to future meetings at Singleton Lodge.
